Community Outreach Sessions

Outreach Sessions for People with Disabilities and/or Mental Health Disorders

Plus Their Loved Ones and Caregivers

2 Hours

Within the IMPACT Initiative, Pulse Line Collaborative Training offers free two-hour presentations for people with disabilities and/or mental health disorders and their loved ones or caregivers. These informative sessions provide tools to help empower this segment of our community by allowing them to communicate with first responders, ask for accommodations, advocate for themselves, and ultimately feel and be safe with first responders.

Individuals can use these tools to prepare for an emergency and to help remember to clearly communicate any information about their disability or mental health condition to dispatchers. Allowing responders to have that information quickly or as they are responding can help avoid escalation and keep everyone involved safer.

The presentation also describes resources available that offer problem-solving alternatives to contacting law enforcement if police assistance isn’t really what will be most beneficial.
